The “strong Black woman” is a dangerous and often racist myth that results in great harm to women of color.
The myth is used by the Anglo/Euro community to not treat women of color with humanity and to not acknowledge their femininity. At other times it is used in African American community and perpetuates the myth as a form of internalized racism. In no place and from no perspective is it positive, supportive or healing.
I examine this with author Tamyara Brown, a prolific woman who is an entrepreneur with a web development business and is the mother of six children and six novels.
